Please note: All international travel is governed by Clark’s International Travel Policy. Please review this policy prior to planning any Clark-related travel abroad.
Health Insurance
The University encourages all international travelers obtain adequate health insurance to protect against financial loss due to an unanticipated illness or hospitalization. The University reserves the right to require proof of health insurance before approving international travel, particularly in the case of student travel.
Short-term health and medical emergency insurance can be purchased by faculty, staff, or students through the University’s insurance provider, HTH Worldwide. Please contact the Office of Study Abroad and Study Away Programs for more information.
Students who are enrolled in Clark’s student health insurance program are covered by Blue Cross’s “BlueCard Worldwide Program”. They also have access to worldwide travel assistance through AIG. Please see the AIG travel assistance services flyer for details. This coverage applies any time a covered student is travelling abroad – even if it is not Clark related.
Student Travel Assistance Insurance
Students travelling abroad in either Study Abroad programs or on other short-term trips are required to obtain insurance from HTH Worldwide. This insurance provides health insurance as well as other benefits including travel assistance and evacuation in the event of political upheaval or natural disaster. HTH insurance can be obtained through the Office of Study Abroad and Study Away Programs

International Travel
When traveling to foreign countries faculty and staff also have access to travel assistance services through ACE which covers:
- Assistance for medical emergencies including emergency medical evacuation and repatriation
- Emergency medication assistance
- Lost document assistance
- Emergency cash advance
- Legal access
- Emergency translations and interpreters
- Emergency evacuation in the even of natural disaster or political upheaval
- Concierge services
The ACE insurance also functions as international workers compensation insurance in the event an employee is injured in an accident which occurs while engaged in Clark-related business. Please note that it does not provide insurance coverage for illness or other medical condition that is not the result of either an accident or a disease that is endemic to the region the employee is visiting. It would also not cover non-work related accidents – for example if an employee was hurt hiking or bike riding. For this reason, it is important that all faculty and staff travelling abroad ensure they have adequate health insurance. The ACE insurance can help obtain medical treatment in the event of a non-work related accident or illness but health insurance is needed to cover the costs. Please see the health insurance section above for more information.
Please download the ACE travel assistance summary as well as the ACE travel card, which contain important policy and contact numbers, prior on your trip. Please also complete Clark’s travel reporting form to provide Clark with emergency contact information and to register your trip for insurance tracking purposes.
