Copiers and/or Multifunction Printers (MFPs)
This information is designed to explain the capabilities of the copier/MFP machines Clark has approved for purchasing/leasing and to help streamline the acquisition process.
Due to the convergence of technologies, single purpose copiers and printers are being phased out in favor of multifunction printers (MFP’s) whenever appropriate. MFP’s have many benefits including:
- Copy, print, scan and fax included in one device.
- Significantly reduced energy use by consolidating functions in to one machine.
- Reduced toner, maintenance and supply costs.
- Networked printing, scan to email and faxing.
- More effective utilization of office space.
In support of the University’s Climate Action Plan, it is the goal of ITS and the Business Manager to reduce the number of printers and copiers whenever feasible. Replacing single function devices such as printers, copiers and fax machines with MFP’s can reduce energy consumption from document technology by up to 50%. In addition, scanning and faxing to electronic files can reduce paper use. We are encouraging the campus to re-examine copying/printing configuration when investigating the replacement of departmental copiers and printers. ITS and the Business Manager are encouraging and recommending that the University gives preference to the purchase of MFPs that replace two or more existing devices within a department.
