National First-Generation College Student Day
Contact Information
November 8 marks the annual celebration of National First-Generation College Student Day. We observe November 8 to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965.
HEA was created to generate more opportunities for Americans from minority and low-income backgrounds to go to college. In addition to creating federal grants and loan programs to help students finance their educations, the legislation made key investments in institutions of higher education and introduced programs, such as the Federal TRIO programs, to increase postsecondary access, retention, and completion for low-income, potential first-generation college graduates.
