Nancy Austin is a design-thinking career coach for young professionals. She founded Leonardo Coaching in 2016 after decades of empowering students from diverse global backgrounds at RISD, WPI, and Yale. After graduating from Clark with a double-major in Math & Chemistry, Dr. Austin received her PhD from Brown University with a thesis on the innovative, entrepreneurial women who founded the Rhode Island School of Design at another moment of disruptive industrial change. Speaking of the future of work: Nancy believes a diverse career portfolio can be a good strategy for pre-emptive upskilling. Most recently, Nancy has utilized new remote learning platforms to upskill in cloud technology, cybersecurity and future of work tech. Last month Nancy received her amateur radio license after passing two FCC exams, and was amazed at how much her long-ago Clark Math and Physics courses helped her dig into the steep learning curve of electronics and radio-wave behaviors. More important still was knowing what it felt like to jump into a new subject, flounder, orient, and ultimately succeed.
