We are no longer accepting students for our fall semester classes!
Please email alci@clarku.edu if you would like to reserve your spot for the spring semester.

Did you know that ALCI also hosts amazing information sessions? See our list of events below. All Clark students and staff are welcome to join, and check our calendar for updated info!

  • Every Wednesday: Bring Your Own Lunch English Conversation
Come by the ALCI Lounge (Jonas Clark 208) between 12 and 1 o’clock to have lunch with fellow students and staff, and practice speaking English. Though you have to bring your own lunch, Nico makes a pretty nice cup of coffee!
  • September 5: Worcester Wanderers
Learn what there is to do around Worcester! Transit system, places to eat, how to make a reservation, and more!
  • September 19: Language Exchange Program Meet Up
Our first In-Person meet up for the Language Exchange Program. Come meet with your established partner or make a new one! Make sure to check out the Language Exchange tab for more questions and to sign up.
  • September 25: Going Abroad Again (1:00 – 2:00 PM)
Do you want to learn how to use your international experience to pursue scholarship and employment opportunities abroad? Join us for this round table with representatives from offices all over Clark Campus to give tips on what kinds of programs to look for and how to apply.
  • October 3: Navigating Cultural Social Cues
Have you ever had a feeling of cultural shock or misunderstanding? No worries, we all go through that process being a new place. Come to help develop strategies for how to best communicate oneself in a mixed cultural environment. Please feel free to speak out and know that you will be heard!
  • October 17: American Government
Are you confused by how the government works in the USA? Trust me, many of us who grew up here feel the same way! Come to a conversation about how the American system of government works, especially compared to governments around the world. Topics include: What is a US political primary? How do primaries lead to choosing the U.S. President?

Are you looking to learn or practice a language with a native speaker? Hoping to make some international friends at Clark? Perhaps the Language Exchange Program is for you!

The Language Exchange Program is run by Clark’s American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI). The program is open to the entire Clark community and is entirely free to participate in. Once you have been paired up with a language partner, we encourage you to meet up and practice as often as you wish (and your schedules permit).  Any and all Clark students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to apply.

To sign up, click the link below to complete the survey. In the survey, you will  list the languages you speak and the languages you want to practice, so that you can be paired up with a language partner with corresponding language desires and interests. When you get together with your partner to practice, you can take turns teaching and learning each other’s language.

ALCI has been scheduling monthly in-person meet ups for all of the Language Exchange Partners to play multilingual games and to celebrate learning moments. If you would like to join us, please write to alci@clarku.edu to learn when the next event is.

Interested in volunteering at ALCI at any of our wonderful programs and workshops? We are always happy for help and ideas! Please click the link to sign up, and feel free to email alci@clark.edu if you have any ideas for creating or leading any additional programming.
