Reserves Collection
The Reserves Collection provides access to materials that are required or recommended for courses offered at Clark University. We offer assistance obtaining access to materials in all formats, including print books, e-books, electronic articles, excerpts scanned from larger works, videos, and more.
Canvas Support
We are happy to work with instructors to make materials available to students directly in Canvas. Interested instructors should contact Lawrence Bolduc (Head of Instruction, Research, and Access) for guidance on embedding materials in Canvas courses.
Textbook Notice
Only as a rare exception will the library purchase a textbook that does not contribute to our collection beyond its use in a course. A textbook is defined by the Online Dictionary for Library and Information Science as: “A trade book issued in a separate edition specifically for the use of students enrolled in a course of study. The format may be altered to make it more useful, for example, by the addition of study questions and bibliographies at the end of each section or chapter.”
Open Educational Resources
We strongly encourage instructors to explore Open Educational Resources. These materials are free for both students and instructors, and typically allow instructors to adapt the material to better suit their curricular needs. Instructors should reach out to library staff if they are interested in exploring OER options.
Copyright Notice
The library must operate inside of United States copyright law. All materials must be obtained and used in compliance with Title 17 of the United States Code. Note: The library makes no guarantee that a given request can be fulfilled.
Processing Timeline
Course Reserves order requests are processed in the order that they are received. Because orders are processed in high volumes on a semesterly basis, instructors should allow for up to four weeks’ processing time on the materials they request. Instructors are encouraged to order materials as early as possible to help ensure materials are processed in time for the start of the semester.
