Honor curiosity

We see your intellectual curiosity, your passion for learning, and your willingness to actively participate in and outside of the classroom. Let’s lean into that.

The Clark Honors Experience is not some conventional honors program. It is co-designed by students and faculty to bring positive change, and each student contributes ideas to shape the experience for future cohorts. Through this experience and accomplishments in and out of the classroom, students who graduate with the honors accolade are stand-out candidates for potential employers and graduate schools.

Honors Experience foundations

Honors Experience students are immersed in activities that center around four primary themes in the context of “Challenge Convention. Change Our World.”

Community

Students build connections with, learn from, and collaborate with others from a diversity of backgrounds, lived experiences, and academic perspectives to develop deeper knowledge of themselves and others.

Inclusive Academic Excellence

Committed to learning beyond what is simply required, Honors Experience students nurture a culture that values the talents and passions of each individual.

Interdisciplinarity

The experience is purpose-built for inquisitive, independent thinkers who challenge assumptions, look at things from multiple angles, and aren’t afraid to take on the complex problems facing our world.

Ingenuity

Inspired by their own unique perspectives, students co-create and co-curate engaged learning opportunities, from community service to cultural events.

Some of the other benefits to enrolling in the Honors Experience are:

  • Special funding is available for co-curricular activities.

The Honors Experience has been designed such that Department Honors are not affected. All Honors students must complete a culminating experience in their senior year. Many will want to do this through existing Departmental Honors programs, and are encouraged to do so. Departmental honors will show on the student’s record at graduation, along with the Honors Experience. Departmental Honors will remain open to all eligible students, at the discretion of the department faculty. Participation in the Honors Experience does not guarantee acceptance into Departmental Honors.

Yes, an anonymous gift allows for a Student Honors Fund and cohort-based enrichment activities each semester.

No. Students participating in the experience are not housed in the same residence hall. Students living anywhere can participate.

Through a special design course, a cohort of sophomores examined other programs and came up with something new. Read the origin story: Sparking curiosity: Students help faculty build Clark’s new honors experience.

Admission

The first cohort of Honors Experience students will be selected through the admission process and begin as first-year students in the fall 2024 semester. Students who are not selected for the fall cohort may apply to join in the spring.
