Eduard Arriaga is a researcher of language, literature, culture, and digital humanities. He develops interdisciplinary research at the intersection of fields such as critical race studies, Afro-Latinx and Afro-Latin American Studies, digital studies, and digital humanities. He is currently writing a book under contract with Vanderbilt University Press that examines the way Afro-Brazilian marginal communities challenge the so-called “algorithmic determinism” through hybrid and communal digital practices in search of data and social justice. As a scholar and instructor of language, literature and culture, Eduard has had the opportunity to work at institutions in Colombia, Canada, and the US. He previously worked as an Associate Professor and Chair of Global Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies at the University of Indianapolis and brings that expertise to Clark as Chair of the Department of Language, Literature & Culture. He has received a number of awards and honors, including the Institutional Leadership Award at University of Indianapolis. Eduard earned an M.A. in Hispanic American Literature from Caro y Cuervo Institute (Colombia) and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies and Migration Studies from The University of Western Ontario (Canada).
