Join us for our annual Pride Celebration. We’ll have cold treats from Kona Ice, and you can grab a Pride Month tote bag, which was designed by E. Tejada III, associate director for gender and sexuality at Clark. We will have supplies (tie-dye and markers) to decorate your tote bags (see image at right).
June marks Pride Month, nationally recognized in the U.S., which honors the lives and experiences of LGBTQIA+ people. June was selected to honor the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City and the start of the Gay Liberation Movement. The first pride march occurred on June 28, 1970, in New York City to mark the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama both cemented the recognition of June as Pride Month, first as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and then LGBT Pride Month. Given the rise of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation being passed across the country, we find it more important than ever to honor and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ Clark community members: we see you, we care for you, we value you.
In case of rain, our Pride Celebration will be held inside Dana Commons.
