Professor Paul Posner will moderate a Q&A session with Beatriz Bustos Gallardo, professor at the Universidad de Chile.
In October 2019, the Chilean people began a social revolt that led to the writing and referendum of a new constitution. An integral part of the social upheaval was the negative assessment of the environment and the economic model upon which the current constitution is based. The constitutional assembly had a major representation of leaders from ecological movements, and thus, the ecological lens was central to the whole document. The talk will highlight the process that led to and the content of the proposed constitution as well as the outcome of the referendum, in the context of the current climate crisis and Chilean transformation.
