Please join us for a conversation with Dr. Iria Bello Viruega, Dr. María Gil Poisa and the LLC’s Dr. Dolores (Lola) Juan-Moreno as they discuss the process, challenges and goals of implementing a Collaborative Online International Learning course at Clark University in collaboration with two Spanish Institutions.

Dr. Iria Bello Viruega works as a Lecturer in English at the University of the Balearic Islands, where she teaches English for Specific Purposes courses and seminars on Second Language Acquisition at undergraduate and graduate levels. She holds a B.A., a M.A., and a Ph.D. in English, which were awarded by the University of A Coruña (Spain). She has taught Language and Linguistics courses at the College of the Holy Cross (MA, USA), the University of A Coruña (Spain), Heidelberg University (Germany), and, since 2018, she works at the Department of Spanish, Modern, and Classical Languages University of the Balearic Islands. Her research interests lie in the fields of Cognitive and Corpus Linguistics, Experimental Pragmatics, and Second Language Acquisition.
Dr. María Gil Poisa holds a doctorate in Hispanic Studies and Film Studies from Texas A&M University. Her areas of research have been Spanish fantasy and horror cinema, Hispanic horror cinema and teaching activity through cinema. She is currently a professor at the Escola Superior d’Infermeria del Mar where she teaches Instrumental and Communicative Strategies for the University, is the Head of the Internationalization and Mobility department, and leads a COIL project. She is also an adjunct professor at Jacksonville University (United States), where she teaches courses in Diversity and Media and Spanish Society Through Film and Television for study abroad students in Barcelona. Throughout her career she has published in different indexed magazines, such as Hispania, Film Criticism, or the Arizona Journal of Hispanic Cultural Studies, as well as being invited to collaborate in several collective critical volumes from publishers such as Palgrave Macmillan and presented in more than a dozen international conferences. During her years in the United States, she taught Spanish and Latin American language, culture and literature, as well as film analysis and film history, at Texas A&M University, College of the Holy Cross and Bates College.
Dr. Dolores (Lola) Juan-Moreno received a B.A. from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) in 2008, and Ph.D.s from UIB and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2015 and 2016, respectively. She has been at Clark since 2015.Lola’s research focuses on contemporary Spanish cinema, specifically on works by women filmmakers released after the year 2000.At Clark University she teaches all levels of Spanish language as well as Hispanic film, culture, and literature. She also serves as the Spanish Program Coordinator and as the director and coordinator of the Hispanic Culture and Heritage (HCH) Project, which she created along with undergraduate students in 2016. Lola is also the founder and director of the International Conference of Hispanic Women Filmmakers (CIMCiH), a biannual event whose second edition will take place at Clark University in October 2023. She has both national and international publications and is part of projects such as MYC (Mujeres y Cine), Gynocine and CinemAGEnder.
