A new Earth conversation invites you to a conversatorio, Community in Action: Climate Change and Puerto Rico, which will explore the various dimensions of Puerto Rico’s complex relationship with the United States and the Americas in relation to natural disasters, colonialism, climate change, corruption, migration and displacement, poverty, government neglect, and resilience.

The panel will be moderated by Eduard Arriaga-Arango, chair of the Literature, Language, and Culture Department. Faculty presenters will include:

  • Ramón Borges-Méndez, International Development, Community, and Environment: “Puerto Rico, Natural Disasters … But Aid by Dropper”
  • María Acosta Cruz, Literature, Language, and Culture: “A Culture of Disaster in Puerto Rico, 1508–2022”
  • Rosalie Torres-Stone, Sociology: “Puerto Rico, Climate Change, and Social Determinants of Health: Where do we go from here?”
  • Juan Pablo Rivera, Literature, Language, and Culture: “Stories, songs, and poems as a way to process trauma”
