Presented by Ellen Hughes-Cromwick, PhD
Clark Alum (MA International Development, 1988; PhD Economics, 1986) and current Clark Board of
Trustees member, Ellen Hughes-Cromwick will talk about her journey from her time at Clark University to
a career that included stops in the private sector, academia, and government service.
Ellen served as chief global economist at the Ford Motor Company, where she provided analysis on the global
economy and, more specifically, how economic development creates jobs and opportunities for individuals in
all sectors of the economy. As the Obama Administration’s Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of
Commerce, she focused on economic forecasting, improving data quality, measuring the digital economy, and
expanding workforce development, manufacturing, trade, and investment.
As a Senior Resident Fellow at Third Way, a think tank in Washington DC, Ellen will also discuss her current
policy efforts to accelerate electrification of transportation, electric vehicle policy, and the transition to net zero
emissions.
Free and open to the Clark Community.
Co-sponsored by the Political Science Department, through the Francis A. Harrington Public Affairs Fund, the Departments of Economics, IDCE and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
