Dr. Alex Gil Fuentes (Yale University) in collaboration with Dr. Eduard Arriaga-Arango (Clark University) will present a faculty workshop exploring Digital Humanities (DH) from a minimal computing perspective. Drawing on examples and experiences from their own DH practice, they will discuss how the DH landscape has evolved in the last decade, becoming a complex and decentralized field of practice and inquiry. In focusing the discussion and the activities around the concept of minimal computing, the workshop will showcase how the traditional DH center, as a site of specialization, has been somehow displaced by critical visions and productive collaborations by and between scholars, practitioners, and activists who engage with technology and digital technology while questioning their power and colonial roots. Finally, the workshop will be a space to start thinking about how the Clark community could develop and implement its own model of DH for a small research university centered around liberal arts education.
This event is open to members of the Clark University faculty and staff. Lunch will be offered.
