Action Item: Relocate University Police headquarters to the periphery of campus

In Progress

The Action Item is being worked on, with the goal of completion.

The Action Item is being worked on, with the goal of completion.

As part of its efforts to reduce the presence of armed police officers in public and residential spaces on campus, Clark will move the University Police (UP) department from its current space in Bullock Hall to a location on the periphery of the main campus by summer 2022. The space currently occupied by UP would be transitioned into a public service safety center housing ClarkRIDE, Rapid Response, the newly formed Clark University Police Department civilian unit, and mental health resources.

This action item is one of 10 recommendations presented to President David Fithian in June 2021 by the Task Force for Campus Safety and Security. In response to concerns voiced by the Black Student Union and other members of our community, the task force reviewed Clark’s approach to campus safety and security.

Updates

Updates as of March 30, 2022

The University continues to make progress toward relocating Clark University Police to the periphery of campus. In doing so, the goal is to enhance the feeling of safety on campus and build deeper trust between our students and the University Police. The hope is to complete the move by the end of this calendar year provided we can overcome a number of significant challenges related to information technology infrastructure and connectivity in the buildings off campus being considered for this use for this purpose.
