Research is needed in the field of spatial analysis to identify indicators for healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities, assess and communicate findings to policy makers, and develop social and infrastructure services or policy interventions for specific areas.
Our research projects are driven by community needs, and involve collaboration with a variety of stakeholders including local government officials, medical professionals, and community organizations.
Researchers and practitioners in the Department of Sustainability use spatial clustering and hot spot analysis, spatial statistics, and spatial regression to address a broad range of urgent social, environmental, and health issues such as adverse birth outcomes, asthma incidence, heat-related mortality, health disparities, crime and noise pollution. We also study the intersection of society and the environment applying spatial analysis to management practices.
