Compound research results in one-of-a-kind substance
Chemistry faculty members and graduate students conduct complex research with a simple goal: to produce findings that can impact the world in positive ways.

Clark professors are committed to research conducted on a micro level with macro impact. They examine and reexamine how matter changes and interpret what those changes mean. Their findings have implications for human health, industry, and the environment.
Ph.D. candidates enjoy a unique opportunity to pair their research interests with vital mentorship from Clark faculty. They build robust research portfolios, publish their work in prestigious journals, and present at conferences. Partnerships with WPI and UMass Medical School foster collaboration with peers and professors beyond campus.
Our practice-based learning allows students to do meaningful research beginning in their first year. And it doesn’t stop. Undergraduate and fifth-year students work closely with faculty and to advance their understanding in chemistry, and biochemistry and molecular biology. Many co-author scientific papers that contribute to our collective knowledge of the world around us.
The Gustaf H. Carlson School of Chemistry and Biochemistry’s Jeppson Laboratory and the Arthur M. Sackler Sciences Center comprise 51,000 square feet of research and teaching laboratories, classrooms, lecture and seminar rooms, department offices, and a science library.
