Peter Angotti ’24, a history major and Army ROTC graduate

Major: History

Clark Days: Peter, who enrolled in the Army ROTC program in his first year, is the only member of the Class of 2024 to be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He is a member of the Bay State Battalion — one of 274 Senior Army ROTC battalions across the United States — he did physical training three mornings each week, attended military science classes and leadership labs that involved learning the basics of drill and ceremony, land navigation, first aid, and small-unit tactics. In the classroom, his passion for history shined through in his senior thesis, in which he examined the many facets of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, from the root causes to the ongoing repercussions.

Post-Commencement Plans: In October, Peter will move to Georgia to complete his Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Moore and receive specialized training as an armor officer. Eventually, he will lead a group of 20-25 soldiers.

Reflection: “Being in the Army you are part of the government. You have these responsibilities to something much larger than yourself. That comes with a certain degree of responsibility to understand the world and how it works.”
