Major: Master of Public Administration (bachelor’s in psychology ’22)
Clark Days: Language is a theme that runs throughout all of Luke Pound’s work at Clark, both in and out of the classroom. In 2021, he received a Tamara Gay Walker Award — given to a student completing a summer project in the languages, comparative literature, and the arts — to support his work to translate “Waiting for Godot,” by Samuel Beckett, from the original French into English, and “Much Ado About Nothing,” by William Shakespeare, from English to Spanish. He also wrote two plays that were performed as part of the Visual and Performing Arts Department’s biennial New Play Festival — one of which received the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s National Undergraduate Playwriting Award (Distinguished Achievement).
Post-Commencement Plans: Luke received a 2023 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award and will spend around nine months in Argentina. He’s not quite sure what will come after that, but he has a few options in mind, such as becoming a certified interpreter or translator, or conducting research to support language access initiatives. Another possibility is pursuing a doctoral degree in psycholinguistics.
