U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland visited the Blackstone Valley National Historical Park in June, one stop along her tour of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her visit focused on meeting with the federally recognized tribes, but she also made time to meet with a few environmental groups, including the Blackstone Watershed Collaborative. Along with RI Senator Whitehouse, RI Senator Reed, RI Representative Magaziner, RI Governor McKee, Pawtucket Mayor Grebien, and others including Marsh Institute Research Scientist and Blackstone Watershed Collaborative Program Manager Stefanie Covino, Secretary Haaland discussed the importance of protecting our natural and cultural resources, especially as it relates to creation of migratory fish passage in the Blackstone River. For more information on the Blackstone Watershed Collaborative, visit their website.
