Historical background: The postcard advertises the 1st postal show of the local German Collectors’ group at the Konig-Albert-Museum in 1938. Hildebrand Gurlitt was the art gallery director for the Konig-Albert-Museum in 1925. Gurlitt was dismissed from the gallery in 1930 due to the city’s financial hardships and press campaigns against him. Gurlitt went on to be an independent art dealer and later, during the Nazi era, became 1 of 4 art dealers for Hitler. In 1943, Gurlitt was the official purchasing agent for Hitler’s planned Führermuseum.
