Sam is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in remote sensing, with a focus on applying cutting-edge machine learning models to environmental studies and computational geography. His passion lies in leveraging advanced technologies to gain deeper insights into our planet’s dynamics and address pressing environmental challenges.
Sam received his bachelor’s degree in forestry from Gorgan University of Agriculture and Natural Resources Engineering, Iran. And then, earned a master’s degree in GIS and Remote Sensing, focusing on land and water resources, from Tabriz University, Iran. Following this, he pursued a second master’s degree in Geomatics at Lund University. My PhD in Geography focused on addressing food security by mapping small-holder agricultural fields in Africa and contributing to environmental conservation through studying coastal habitats, particularly Mangrove species, and the development of aquaculture ponds. His research during this time aimed to utilize AI to extract critical information from Earth observation satellite imagery.
His current research focuses on:
- Soil moisture prediction from P-band PolSAR imagery using a deep learning framework.
- Collaboration with NASA-IMPACT on evaluating the second vision of Prithvi, a geospatial foundation model developed as a joint effort by NASA and IBM.
