The Center for Gender, Race and Area Studies supports interdisciplinary teaching and research on deep-rooted social issues, with a primary focus on how race, gender, and ethnicity shape global inequality, geopolitics, and the struggle for human rights.
With affiliate faculty whose research areas span North and Latin America, Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa, globally engaged research is a hallmark of the Center. In addition to supporting research, the Center serves as a hub for seven interdisciplinary concentrations at Clark: Women’s and Gender Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Genocide and Human Rights Studies, Africana Studies, Asian Studies and Latin American Studies.
