Bringing American accounting principles home to China

Helen Wang, pursuing her M.S. in accounting in the School of Business, came to Clark University because of its prestigious reputation in Beijing. She has learned how to apply accounting best practices learned in the U.S. to help companies in China.

Student spotlight

Most international companies know Clark, and they want to have people who know the American accounting standard well to help the company. Clark offered me lots of opportunities, and that’s very unique.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to complete the M.S. in Accounting?

Students can complete the program in as little as one year, depending on prior coursework and full- or part-time enrollment status. The program includes 12 courses (foundation, core, and electives), and students with prior accounting coursework may qualify for foundation course waivers.

Can I enroll in the program if my undergraduate degree is not in accounting?

Yes. Applicants from non-accounting backgrounds are welcome. You may be required to complete two foundation courses in accounting at the start of the program to ensure you’re prepared for advanced coursework. This pathway makes the degree accessible to students looking to pivot into accounting from another field.

Is the program STEM-designated for international students?

Yes. Clark’s M.S. in Accounting is STEM-designated for students beginning in Fall 2023 or later. This designation allows international graduates to apply for up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT), offering valuable time to gain professional experience in the U.S.
