STUDENT STORAGE

Clark University has partnered with Collegeboxes, Inc. to provide ALL Clark Students with the opportunity to store their belongings as easily as possible.  In past years, only students coming from great distances had a convenient storage opportunity, and that was limited and first come first served.  Our partnership with Collegeboxes means that all students can acquire storage services if they desire.

COLLEGEBOXES, INC. STORAGE SOLUTIONS FOR CLARK STUDENTS:

All Students may seek storage through Collegeboxes, Inc.  Collegeboxes operates the largest storage operation targeting college students in the country.  Collegeboxes will provide you with the boxes and materials you need to ship or store your items during your summer break.  In addition, all semester abroad storage must be coordinated through Collegeboxes.  Check out this video or visit www.collegeboxes.com to learn more about Collegeboxes, their services, and their pricing.

SPECIAL STUDY ABROAD NOTICE!
If you are in need of storage while you are away from Clark, Collegeboxes can provide you with storage IF YOU ACT FAST!  Collegeboxes will send you a packet of 5 boxes via UPS and will be picking storage up on campus on December 18th. They can either store your items for the Spring Semester or through the entire summer if you would prefer.  There was some confusion which had some students believing that Collegeboxes would not accept their storage request. This has been corrected and Collegeboxes will be here on Tuesday to collect items. If you are leaving before Tuesday the 18th you may leave your boxes at the RLH office and Collegeboxes will pick up your items from us.  Visit www.collegeboxes.com today to order your storage starter pack.  You are billed only for what you use.

SO WHY DOES CLARK NO LONGER OFFER ON-CAMPUS STORAGE?

Many students have commented recently about the decision to discontinue storage in the residence halls over the summer break and study abroad periods. While RLH certainly understands the importance of storage for students who travel significant distances to attend Clark, this difficult decision was based on the following factors:

Fire Safety
The rooms previously utilized for storage are mechanical rooms. They contain sprinkler shut off valves as well as other pipes. We have been told on many occasions by the Worcester Fire Marshall that storage in these spaces creates difficulties, especially in the event of a fire. In addition, as we do not have an inventory of contents in the boxes, we can not assure the Worcester Fire Department that we are not storing flammable items. It is important that these rooms remain accessible in emergencies and that we comply with state and local fire regulations.

Lack of Space
Due the small space available (approximately 1200 square feet), we were able to provide storage to less than 50% of the eligible residents. In 2006, 215 students were eligible for storage and 89 students received stickers. In 2007, we had 218 eligible students and 95 students received stickers. The students who received stickers were not guaranteed space in the storage rooms, but were allowed to store on a first come first serve basis. Stickers were also given out on a first come first serve basis. As many of you know, our storage rooms filled quickly and many people were turned away. This was not a dependable option for students.

Insurance of Your Belongings
Unfortunately, boxes have gone missing and items within boxes have been damaged. Due to insurance restrictions, RLH could not reimburse for damage, theft or any other loss. This would include flooding from a burst pipe, fire, leaking from another box or damage from a box being moved. It is important that students have a safe, reliable space when storing essential belongings.
