Meet some ES&P interns

Suela John, B.A. '10

Suela is working on an academic internship with ES&P professor Tim Downs. “We are using indoor environmental testing to learn more about the communities at risk in the Main South and Piedmont neighborhoods. The internship is focused on indoor environmental sampling and I am a research assistant.”

Stephanie L. Oleksyk, B.A./M.A. '08

Stephanie is currently an intern at Corporate Environmental Advisors of West Boylston, writing a release abatement measure plan (RAM) for a former liquid waste dump in Leicester, Mass. Her paper will be submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection before a voluntary clean-up of the site.

Laura Merner, B.A. '08

Laura received a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) fellowship from the National Science Foundation to work on integrated watershed sciences at the University of Texas in Austin. Through this experience she also had the opportunity to go to Mexico for a week and conduct in-situ water quality analysis. Next Laura plans to return to Austin to intern at the Center for Environmental Research where she will be conducting an independent study revolving around riparian zone ecology and water quality/quantity. “As part of the internship I will also be working with a youth river watch program which works to raise awareness about the environment, promote environmental studies, and help motivate ‘at-risk’ youth to complete their education.”
