Men's Basketball Runs away from AMCATS in 2nd half, 80-64

The Clark University mens basketball team defeated Anna Maria College, 80-64, at the Fuller Activities Center on Tuesday night, as CU junior Mark Alexander (Providence, R.I.) filled the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block.

The AMCATS came out firing in the first, getting back-to-back threes from sophomore Chris Pinsonault (Marlboro, Mass.) to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Cougars battled back, and after consecutive three-pointers of their own, CU grabbed their first lead of the night, 10-9.

There would be five lead changes in the first half as both teams battled for control. The Cougars took advantage of AMCAT mistakes to score 14 points off of turnovers in the period to go into the locker room with a 40-31 advantage.

After Alexander knocked down a jumper to start the second half for the Cougars, AMC clawed their way back into the game by going on a 7-0 run, cutting the CU lead to 42-38. Clark responded strong, going on an 11-2 run of their own, with senior Byron Roberts (New Haven, Conn.) contributing four points and a steal, to build a 53-40 lead. The AMCATS would never recover, as Clark pulled away for an 80-64 victory.

Alexander paved the way for the Cougars with his all-around game, while freshman Mitch Renshaw (Rutland, Mass.), senior Peter Normandin (Westminster, Mass.), junior Slader Lyell (Portsmouth, R.I.), and senior Byron Roberts all scored in double digits with 12, 10, 10, and 10 points, respectively.

The AMCATS were paced by Pinsonault who led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers while collecting four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomores Tyler Washington (Milford, Mass.) and Derek Johnson (Worcester, Mass.) also scored in double-figures while sophomore Ryan Joyal (Marlboro, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

The victory improves the Cougars overall record to 3-2. The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, December 4 when they host Worcester State at 7:00 pm. With the loss, the AMCATS now fall to 2-3 on the season. They will return to the court on Tuesday, December 2 when they travel to take on Coast Guard at 7:00 pm.
