Alexander Named NEWMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

WORCESTER, MASS. 02/25/08 - Clark University's Mark Alexander has been named the New England Women's and Me's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball player of the week, it was announced on Monday.

Alexander, a sophomore forward from Providence, R.I., averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead Clark to a 2-0 mark last week and its highest regular season NEWMAC finish (2nd) since 2002-03. He scored 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds in Clark's 92-90 come-from-behind victory over Wheaton College last Saturday. Alexander added eight points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 21 seconds left in regulation, to lift Clark to a 58-56 victory over MIT earlier in the week. He also chipped in with two steals and two assists in the game. This marks Clark's first NEWMAC men's basketball player of the week selection this winter.

Clark (12-12, 7-5 NEWMAC) earned the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will host seventh seed Wheaton College on Wednesday (7 p.m.) at the Kneller Athletic Center. Tickets for Wednesday's game are $4 for adults, including Clark faculty and staff and senior citizens; $1 for non-Clark students and Clarkies without an ID; and free for Clark students with ID and children under 12.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of the #3 Coast Guard/#6 MIT contest in the semifinals at top-seed WPI on Saturday (3 p.m.).
