Men's Basketball Downed by Trinity College
Hartford, Conn. The Clark University men's basketball team dropped a 97-83 non-conference decision to Trinity College on Monday evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Clark falls to 10-9, while Trinity improves to 16-5.
Senior guard Patrick Hasiuk (Enfield, Conn.) totaled 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals to lead the Bantams.
Trinity led, 43-40, at the half thanks to a 26-16 rebounding advantage. Clark sophomore guard Jack Minister (Manchester, England) had 13 of his 17 points off the bench in the opening 20 minutes, making five treys in nine tries. The Cougars took the lead, 55-54, at the 17:13 mark of the second half on a three-pointer by sophomore forward Slader Lyell (Portsmouth, R.I.), but Hasiuk answered with a three-ball of his own on the next Bantam possession. Trinity senior center Steve Dunn (Garwood, N.J.) made a lay-up and fed Hasiuk on a full court pass up the floor for another lay-up to increase the Bantam advantage to 63-55 and Trinity held the lead the rest of the way.
The Bantams shot 60 percent from the floor (18-30) in the second half and made 17 out of 18 shots from the foul line in the game.
Trinity senior tri-captain Russ Martin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished with 16 points, while Dunn notched 13 points, a game-high 12 boards, and two blocked shots off the bench. Freshmen Brian Ford (Bronx, N.Y.) and Luke McDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the pine, while Ford added five assists and McDougall grabbed seven rebounds. The Bantams received 44 of their 97 points from its reserves.
Clark sophomore guard Mark Alexander (Providence, R.I.) led all scorers with 21 points and added six rebounds, and four steals, while junior forward Peter Normandin (Westminster, Mass.) contributed 19 points and seven rebounds.
Clark will play WPI on Wednesday (7 p.m.) at the Kneller Athletic Center.
