Men's Basketball Falls to Carroll College in Title Game
TEMPE, ARIZ. 12/29/07 -- Despite five double-figure scorers, the Clark University mens basketball team fell to Carroll College (Wis.), 85-82, in the championship game of the Cactus Jam Hoop Classic at Phoenix College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Mark Alexander (Providence, R.I.) led Clark with a game-high 18 points. Sophomore transfer Jack Minister (Manchester, England) added 14 points; junior Peter Normandin (Westminster, Mass.), who was named to the All-Tournament team, had 13 points and 16 rebounds; senior Pat Landers (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points and seven boards; and sophomore transfer Chris LoPiano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) finished with 11 points.
Trailing by as many as 12 in the opening half, Clark trimmed the deficit to two (39-41) headed into the locker room.
The Cougars had a chance to knot the score 85-all with 3.7 seconds left to play, but Ministers three-pointer was off the mark.
Junior Wes Ladwig (New Berlin, Wis.) had 17 points to lead Carroll (6-3) to its third straight victory.
Clark (5-6) will return to its northern slate with its conference home opener against Babson College on January 9 (5 p.m.).
