Ashley Sturm (CDP '2013)

Ashley Sturm (USA) graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in August 2011 with her B.S. in Community Health Education and a minor in Spanish. During her undergraduate career, she was active in Eta Sigma Gamma, the National Health Education honorary, where she spent time planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs primarily geared towards the university student population. Her senior project was aimed to improve self-care of the grieving population at a local grief support center. She spent her last two semesters in a Spanish immersion program in Quito, Ecuador followed by a health education internship with HealthKeepers in Accra, Ghana. Ashley’s employment with Grace Manor Restaurant, a locally sourced and seasonal establishment, opened her eyes to the concept of organic farming, and ‘going local’ to support small businesses; these along with health behavior modification and sustainable rural development comprise her current interests.
